Squadron History

Squadron Origins

333 Fredericton Air Cadet Squadron was chartered on the 16th of October 1943 and was originally formed as a high school squadron. In 1958, Lord Beaverbrook, then Chancellor of the University of New Brunswick, gave the squadron permission to carry his name. A native of N.B., Lord Beaverbrook had been Minister of Aircraft Production in Winston Churchill’s cabinet during World War II. The Squadron was also named as the permanent custodian of Lord Beaverbrook’s personal coat of arms designed by Rudyard Kipling in 1917.

Our Squadron Today

Today, 333 Air Cadet Squadron is one of the largest squadrons in Atlantic Canada.

Our Sir James Dunn Highland Guard is the only highland cadet guard among Canadian Air Cadet Squadrons. The Sir James Dunn Highland Guard had the honour of escorting astronaut and pilot Col. Chris Hadfield during his visit at the University of New Brunswick in 2015.

Despite setbacks from the COVID-19 virus, our squadron has remained as operable as possible and looks forward to bringing back activities we have missed out on in the previous two years.
